Old school maps – windows into the past
With their detailed drawings and soft colors, old school maps brought the world into the classroom. Whether it was a beech tree, a world map, or the human body – these artistically designed teaching aids tell not only about their subject but also about a time when learning was still on the wall.
Hans Pertlwieser (1905-1996) was an Austrian illustrator who created botanical school charts. His school chart of a beech tree shows the leaves and beechnuts in detail. The chart was used for science lessons in schools.
