A beautiful carafe made of uranium glass. Highly decorative, but also perfect for water, wine, or as a flower vase.
Uranium glass contains a small amount of uranium oxide (usually 2-10%), which gives it a unique greenish-yellow hue and makes it glow under ultraviolet (UV) light. Uranium glass is safe to use.
Uranium glass was produced on a fairly large scale between 1870 and 1940. During World War II, the use of uranium was banned. Since the second half of the twentieth century, it has been produced only on a very limited scale.
Characteristics of uranium glass:
Color : Usually green or yellow, but sometimes orange or even light blue, depending on the glass formula used.
Fluorescence : Under a UV light it gives a bright green glow, which makes it extra special.
There's minor damage to the handle of this carafe (see photos). The carafe doesn't leak and is perfectly usable.
